Initiation Ceremony for Silent Mentors and Visit/Interview their Family

Before the start of classes, students will contact and invite the family members to participate in the initiation ceremony, as well as discuss suitable times for home visits. The purpose of the initiation ceremony is to provide family members with an opportunity to express their thoughts and emotions to the silent mentors and for medical students to convey their gratitude to the families. Due to the preservation process and changes in the appearance of the silent mentors during classes, it is not practical for family members to meet the silent mentors in person. Furthermore, the initiation ceremony helps family members understand the crucial role the silent mentors play in medical education. The sacrificial love of the families contributes to the fulfillment of each medical student's journey in practicing medicine. Following the initiation ceremony, there will be a family seminar or home visit, allowing students to learn about the life stories of the silent mentors, fostering respect and instilling the medical ethics of treating patients as family.
